I know that you will wonder because of the title and what does this have to do with the events in Zenica and our church, but I am deeply convinced that God speaks in many ways, including through His creation. At one time He spoke through a donkey, and I believe that He has spoken to us through the example I will give.

Namely, a few days ago, while I was at the morning prayer, my wife and a man who works in a nearby store, heard meowing from a garbage container. They thought the cat was stuck and opened the lid of the container to get cat out, but it did not appear. The container was full of garbage and they couldn’t even see it. At one point, almost out of nowhere, a young man appeared who literally left everything aside (phone, documents, etc.) and entered the container, rummaged through it and found a plastic bag from which meowing could be heard. He took it out and put it in front of my wife and that man from the store, took his things and just disappeared. My wife opened the plastic bag, and in it was another potato sack, and in that sack was a small cat, only 2 months old, dirty, wet, smelly and completely terrified.

Silvia (my wife) immediately took the cat and took it home, bathed and dried it. I came from prayer and, since we couldn’t leave her with us because we are tenants, I took her to church, and right after to the vet, where she received a tablet against internal parasites, drops against external parasites and a vaccine against feline diseases.

Afterwards, I returned her to the church and the little cat is now clean and healthy and is safe until someone adopts her, and if no one is found who can give her a safe home, she will stay with us.

Why did I wrote all of this?

The Epistle to the Ephesians says that we have been taken out of darkness, and that darkness is worse and darker than that dumpster full of garbage. We were in the agony of life just like this cat and then HE (JESUS) came. “Out of nowhere” Jesus appeared, left everything aside, did not jealously cling to equality with the Father and entered the darkest place to take us out of death and destruction. Later, when we came to the church, we were bathed in water baptism and we received the body and blood of the Lord who cleansed us from our sins, and the healing that the Lord gives us. And finally, we found refuge in the arms of our heavenly Father and in the church where we feed ourselves every day with the Word of God.

I believe that the example of this little cat is an encouragement for me, my family and the church (and I hope for you too) that God will send us to people who need salvation and cleansing from their sins. For almost 23 years in Zenica and throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, we have been “shouting” and speaking the Gospel. Unfortunately, there are few of them who have “meowed” for salvation so far, but we believe that we will hear more and more voices calling for help and that we will be ready to appear where those voices are heard, even if we enter the dirtiest places in order to reach people with words of salvation.

Now, that small cat is with me on morning prayrs and worship enjoying those 2 hours in my arms while this song below is going on and on and on.
