This year, most Christians will celebrate Christmas on December 25th according to the Gregorian calendar. This year, like many previous ones, we will mostly hear the same messages, greetings and questions about how everyone is celebrating this most joyful Christian holiday. And the answers will mostly be the same, they will celebrate for a few days, and then…
Then, unfortunately, everything returns to the grayness of our everyday life, where we hear the same rhetoric from Bosnian and Herzegovinian actors from the world and politics, but unfortunately also from religious leaders.
Whether we celebrate Christmas according to the Gregorian or Julian calendar, it matters the least. Of course, it matters the least to those who rejoice in the miracle that happened once in the history of mankind, but it matters to those who deal with mere tradition and customs that push us deeper and deeper into the abyss of division and hatred.
What is Christmas? As I emphasized in the title of the message, it is either a tradition and custom of the gloomy reality and grayness in which we live, or it is a belief in a true miracle, the miracle that the Messiah the Savior, Jesus Christ, came to this world to reconcile us first and foremost with the heavenly Father, but also with each other.
Neither of these two things can be omitted, and the first implies the second. That is why our message, this time, is more direct than ever before, and it is addressed to ordinary citizens, religious leaders, the media and those who sit in the seats of power and who shape the socio-political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Repent, be reconciled with God and be reconciled with each other! Do not divide the people and do not cause trouble among people. Jesus came to give us peace, to bring justice, and not only on this day when we celebrate this holiday, but every day of the year. Christmas is the miracle of the birth of the Savior, so may Bosnia and Herzegovina also become a miracle of life and coexistence for all those who live in it.
Merry Christmas
